Modeling and Simulation of Broadband
Delivery at the Last Mile
This project involves architecting
a network for the “Last Mile” (Access Network) to deliver
broadband services (video, voice & data). The research will be comparing
the access alternatives like Telco’s technology (xDSL)
vs. cable companies’ technology (DOCSIS) to predict who can provide a
viable and cheap broadband services network.
The research (Thesis) will be investigating the network with PONs, Hybrid Fiber Coax, xDSL,
DOCSIS et cetera. The project will also explore scenarios such as demand vs.
aggregation and network performance from the end user to the Primary rings.
The research will be using OPNET
extensively with protocol and application models.
